This is a partner assignment so PLEASE post your animal essay by Friday , April 1st and respond to your partner's post the following week, prior to Friday, April 8th.
I was inspired to write this assignment when I was taking my first walk of the season up the Minnechaug Mountain in Wilbraham. On my walk I saw so many animals scurrying in the woods. There were the usual squirrels and chipmunks but I also saw deer, wild turkeys, an owl and yes two bobcats. It was wonderful!
Your assignment this week is to write a short essay that describes a wild animal. You need to use descriptive words that will give a series of clues to your partner so he/she can guess what animal you have written about. So you would write about the animal's size, color, what they like to eat, where the animal lives, and any other features that might help your partner identify the animal.
Each student will post an animal description using the discussion feature on your group page. Please navigate to your group page, click on the discussion tab at the top of the page, enter your name in the subject text box and then type your descriptive animal essay in the message text box area. You then have to check for the name of your partner, which is listed on your group page, read your partners animal essay and respond by making a guess. Here is an example:

Partner 1 wrote:
My animal lives in the woods, but sometimes this animal shows up in people's back yards to eat bird seed. This animal is big. The color of this animal is brown or black. This animal has big teeth and claws. What is this animal?
Partner 2 answered:
I think this animal is a deer. Am I right?
Partner answered:
Good guess, but it is not a deer. Maybe this information will help- this animal hibernates all winter
Partner 2 asked:
I know now, it's a bear, right?
Partner 1 answered:
Good job, you're right! I did write about bears.

So begin by thinking about the animal you want to write about then write a rough draft of your "Guess My Animal" essay, edit the draft and when you're ready to write the final essay, head over to your group page and post it. Remember that an important part of this assignment is to guess your partner's animal and to also respond to their guess. Have fun.**
